Adult Swim Ident : Teenage Euthanasia

Role: Director, animator, concept deisgner

Client: Cartoon Network

2023

I was commissioned to create an Ident for Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim show, Teenage Euthanasia. The brief was very open ended, and as long as the animation had TE’s main characters, was 15 seconds long, and had the AS logo at the end, they gave me complete creative freedom. It was such a treat!

I binge-watched the series, and what resonated with me the most was the dynamic between Trophy, the zombie runaway teen mom, and Annie, the socially awkward daughter yearning for Trophy's attention.

I wanted to show the two of them doing something together, Trophy being wild with youthful irresponsibility and Annie awkwardly going along with it but inevitably getting the short end of the stick.

I decided on the "skincare routine" theme because I am personally struggling with adult acne right now and have been watching A LOT of skincare routine content, and it's pretty ridiculous the amount of things we put on our faces for the sake of beauty. So I wanted to show how absurd it all is in a light-hearted way.

The spot is primarily done in hand-drawn digital animation style, but I animated the "skincare" elements in clay so that those elements felt super tactile and physical, and to make it feel even more believable that this is something Trophy & Annie are filming on their phone.

For example, I animated the clay going onto the acrylic sheet close to the camera, to mimic the poison splashing onto the camera lens.
